The Outsiders- 3&4

October 28th, 2007 by kdanielle

During these two chapters a lot went on, in chapter threePonyboy was hit by Darry for coming home so late from the movies with Cherry and Marcia and also Johnny. Darry started to yell at him and ended up hitting him across the face. Ponyboy then ran out of the house to meet Johnny who was still on the street corner.

There they slept and talked and dreamt about running away to the country. Then all to to soon the blue mustang pulled up. This car is full of Socs who are Cherry and Marcias boyfriends with there buddies. These Socs beat up greaser for fun and were out to get Ponyboy and Johnny for being with their girls. At first Ponyboy and Johnny didn’t know what to do then Bob (a Soc that had beaten up Johnny before) starts to drown Ponyboy in the fountain near the corner.

While Ponyboy is fading away he is all of a suddenly out of the water and gasping for air. He looks up and there’s Johnny laying on the ground saying “I killed him”. Johnny had stabbed Bob with his switchblade and there was a puddle of blood surrouding him.

In chapter four Ponyboy and Johnny have made up a plan: they decided to find Dally to get money a gun and a plan and a way out of what had occured. They find Dally at a nearby party and they get the supplies needed, they head off to an old abandonded church in the country on a train headed to Windrixville.

Wabowden Tournament

October 26th, 2007 by kdanielle

Yesterday we had a tournament in Wabowden; we took third place over all out of seven teams, which is really great for us. We all played very well and beat every team once except for Wabowden lol.

Wabowden took first place and also played really well, the team is hoping that we get to play another team soon but I’m not to sure that is going to happen because one of are coaches is a teacher and can’t always be there at tournaments and practices.

Other than that we did fantastic, we have only been at this for a couple of weeks and we have improved so much, I’m really happy that we got third place and I to hope that we get to play another team here in Snow Lake.

Volleyball has always been a sport that I have liked because ever since I was little at my dad’s my sister and I would practice setting, she taught me only how to set, and I learned the rest in volleyball from the past two years…but three times from Frontier Games.

I hope that next year more people join volleyball because I think that they would have a lot of fun just like are team, great job yesterday everyone!!!!!!!!

The Outsiders- 1+2

October 25th, 2007 by kdanielle

We have started a new novel in school named The Outsiders, it is a fairly old book but has turned out pretty good so far. The first chapter in this book explained the characters that were soon to be involved with the story line. It explained from their looks to their unique personalities. The main character in this book is Ponyboy, he is only 14 years old and has a few brothers that he is very close to and depends on, in the begining.

Other than the explainination of the other characters Ponyboy gets into a fight with the Socs (these are the the rich kind of people in the town they live in, they do not get along because they are so different) he ends up getting very hurt but turns out alright, his brothers find him and take care of him and tell him everything is going to be alright.

Ponyboy was not the only one of the brothers and close friends of his that has taken a beating from the Socs but Johney has also had one, the Greasers (otherwise known as people like Ponyboy and his brothers, who are known as the poor people in their town, they are the opposite of the Socs) do not have any way of defending themselves againest the Socs because there are so many of them at a time.

The second chapter was about Ponyboy, Dallas, and Johney going to movie theatre drive in, here Dallas is bugging two girls (Cherry and Marcia) but Johney sticks up for the girls and Dallas ends up leaving. Ponyboy and Johney sit next to the girls in the theatre (who are Socs) and are very friendly with each other. Then Sodapop comes into the picture and chats up a storm with Marcia.

In the end the three guys and two girls go home and that is the end of the night…until the next…two chapters….cya!!!!

Wabowden- Two teams!

October 19th, 2007 by kdanielle

Another update headed your way, us junior volleyball girls are going to play TWO TEAMS from Wabowden. I was just wondering if we are going to start playing at around 3:00 and stop at 5:30 then how are we going to play two teams fi when we played one that was the time we started and ended? Wel I’m not sure if that makes any sense to you but it does to me lol.

In volleyball again people are improving, but something happened at last nights practice. When we were doing our serves Taiya spranged her ankle again. She had done it once beofre but it happend again due to her foot tipping to the side and I guess it twisted it weird. It sucks that she got hurt because she is really good and plus I’m posotive that she wanted to play againest Wabowden, I mean who wouldn’t?

Other than all the good and bad news around the shool things have been going pretty steady around here, everyone is very about the math test we have to take this afternoon and the L.A. assesments that we absolutely 100% have to do! I actually don’t mind doing the assesments because L.A. is my favorite subject. But when it comes to the math…well I’ll just stop there, have to go anyways silent readings alomst over…it only lasts about 25 mintues. Write later!

Moodle Chat and Skype Call

October 15th, 2007 by kdanielle

In some of my recent posts I have written about such a thing that we did which was have a chat with the kids from L.A. on the moodle. Most of you probably don’t know what a moodle is so let me fill you in. A moodle is something like a site where you can chat and read about the school that has that moodle.

Well, chatting on the moodle wasn’t the only thing that we did, we also had a skype call about the moodle and the questions that we had to answer to ensure that we were doing our work. A skype call is just like a telephone, you can call anyone around the world….on your computer completely free.

It’s pretty cool actually that we have that kind of technology right in the classroom, anyways back to my point. On this skype call we talked about the questions that we had to answer; some of the questions were about what was power, and how do you define it? Everyone really gave different answers and we all put a lot of thought into what we wrote.

I hope that we get to do something like this again because I feel that we learned a lot from it and it taught us a lot about power and relationships because we not only got to study what we thought about the words, but what other people 2700 miles away from us thought.

Upcoming

October 15th, 2007 by kdanielle

Pretty soon two teams from Wabowden are going to come here to play againest our volleyball team. So far the team has been doing pretty well and I think that we are going to do way better than we did the last time, everyone just keeps improving and gets better and better. But that’s what junior volleyball is really for, to make sure you know the right stuff in order to make the highschool team.

Next year me and Paige are going to try out for the highschool team, I’m sure that we are goig to make it on because almost everyone on our team is pretty good.

But I know I’m cutting this short but I have to go because silent reading is almost over, bye!

Differences and Simalarities- The Bet and The Veldt

October 9th, 2007 by kdanielle

These past few weeks the class has been working on blog posts The Bet and the Veldt, by now I’m sure that you have read them and are wondering what they have in common. When you first read these or read about these stories, you don’t really see the connection, but when you read the two stories together you can see how they are similar.

Some reasons of how they are similar are due to the different vocabulary used the stories, the settings of the stories, genre and the theme, the characters, and the events that occur in the stories. Not only are these the differences between the two stories but of course they also have some things in common, one of those things is the power that each of the characters have between other characters. The power that connects these stories is strong and I’m sure that it is something that is not only used between characrters in stories.

Differences and simalarites are imporatant things in any two stories because it can help explain to any reader what really is well…different and simalar. I hope that you keep in mind that these two things are imporant and they really come in handy in junior high. :)

Moodle Chat

October 8th, 2007 by kdanielle

Earlier this week in class we had a moodle chat, I know it sounds kind of funny but it really was a moodle, it was jut like being on MSN.

On this moodle we chatted about four questions that we had to answer, the way that my group answered them was we each gave our example of what we thought about those questions.

Everyone pretty much had the same idea of what it is but also on some questions it was completely different, I can see this because of course we all have different thoughts and that would mean that we all have different opinions.

All of the examples that we gave were very well thought out and we all took are time to really think about what we were really going to be sending in that little white box.

Till next time…

We did so much better! It was really fun because we weren’t nervous anymore, so all of us gave our best. We didn’t win any games but we did loose to five, which was way better than last time seeing as how we lost with 25 to 6 ha ha. Well we are getting way better and I hope that we continue to improve.

We have some good players and with the learning’s of a good coach they can become even better. Well congrats to the team!!! Keep it up!

Desire vs. Need

October 3rd, 2007 by kdanielle

Desire vs. Need what is more important? Of course to most people need is more important but when you start to think about your life and what you desire and what you need, what’s your first thought? To me it is both I desire and I need. I would like to have a laptop, but I need food to eat. Do you see the difference?

In school we read a story called The Veldt, in this story there is an average family of four living in there house in a nice neighborhood. But the twist about this story is they live in the future and their house is electronic, it does everything for them even something as simple as tying there shoes.

The two children in the story Wendy and Peter play a big role. They are used to having everything they desire and having everything handed to them on a silver platter, including their nursery. The nursery in the house isn’t like any other, it as crystalline walls and whatever you imagine shows up in these walls. Lately the children had been thinking about an African veldt land and the parents were beginning to get suspicious. Later on in the story the parents begin to talk about shutting the whole house down for around a month, but Wendy and Peter have another idea.

After the parents were done discussing the nursery and what they were going to do about it, they call the physiologist to help them make there final decision. While the physiologist is there they are inspecting the veldt that the children have been imagining lately. They discover that the loins in the veldt could maybe become real. So in the end of the story the children kill there parents by locking them in a room and the lions with the hot African sun beating down on them.

Just by this summary I can see where desire comes, the children were angry with their parents because they wouldn’t let them go to New York on a rocket, they were also mad at them because they were threatening them about turning the house off and living for real. In this story need isn’t used at all, it was only desire that the kids thought of, and all the parents were trying to do was change that.
