Teaching Young Students About Societies

September 21st, 2007 by kdanielle

Sim City:

What do you think of when you hear the word Sim City? A thought that you may get may be a worthless video game that you waste your time on.When you really start to think about what you do on Sim City is, you are running peoples lives, you are building there houses, and even making them roads to get to one place to another. You are the one making all the big decisions.

By teaching adults of the future things like this you are teaching them how to run a society, and that is exactly what my teacher Mr. Fisher is doing. He is slowly helping the class understand what a real society is, and what it takes to make all these important decisions.

Google Earth:

Not only is he teaching us how to do this he is actually taking us to some societies in Asia, no not really, that’s where Google Earth comes in handy. We are right now finishing up a project on answering some questions about real societies that exist today. We are learning many different things about them and what they do have in common and what they don’t have in common. And after looking at all of those societies and seeing what people in North America and Asia don’t have between each other is a huge amount of things, and that made me realize that some people have to live with what is given to them.

I think that this is a very good thing to learn, and for a small town teacher who is able to make 13 and 14 year old junior high students realize this is a very good thing.

Hope you are looking forward to the other different things that we are going to be learning in this class, bye!

Katherine

This is exactly the kinds of things that I hoped you would learn from this activity. Excellent observations.
